We will discuss how\u003cbr\u003edifferent clay bodies can influence a carved surface, as well as wedging in\u003cbr\u003eaggregates to influence gestures and landscapes. Students will learn to\u003cbr\u003ework intuitively, responding to the terrain of their object as they remove\u003cbr\u003eclay. Technical discussions include:\u003cbr\u003e- clay weight and thickness\u003cbr\u003e- building up surface before you begin carving\u003cbr\u003e- adding aggregates to your clay\u003cbr\u003e- stages of drying, pre- and post-carving\u003cbr\u003e- exploring slip, stain, and glaze applications\u003cbr\u003e- tips for maintaining and reclaiming your trimmings\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAbout the instructor \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBrooklin is a multi-media sculptor \u0026amp; craftsperson. They received their MFA in Craft \u0026amp; Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2025 and their BFA in Ceramics from Indiana University Southeast in 2020, studying as a Post-Baccalaureate student in Ceramics at the University of Hartford in between. In 2022, they worked as a curator for houseguest gallery, an artist-run, non-commercial home gallery (Louisville, KY). They have assisted at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts, Sugar Maples Center for Creative Arts, and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, where they participated as an invited resident artist during Pentaculum 2023.
